Solution

Dear student,

There is no direct effect of light on the rate of transpiration which is the primary process responsible for the water absorption. However, it affects the rate indirectly by following two ways-
  • By controlling the stomatal opening
  • By affecting the temperature
The rate of transpiration increases with the increase in the intensity of light because of the following two reasons-
  • stomata get opened
  • The temperature increases
Therefore, the rate of transpiration through roots cannot be increased by keeping the plants in the dim light as the dim light will decrease the rate of transpiration and water absorption by roots.
