Water is _______ .
Compound
Following are the properties of a compound-
It is made up of two or more elements chemically combined in a fixed proportion.
The properties of a compound are different from the properties of the elements from which it is formed.
The components of a compound cannot be separated by physical means.
Water also show the above properties-
1. The chemical formula for water is H2O, hydrogen and oxygen are present in a fixed ratio, i.e., 2:1.
2. Water, a liquid is nonflammable and does not support combustion, whereas, hydrogen is an extremely flammable gas, and oxygen, a gas that supports combustion. Hence, the properties of water are different from its constituents.
3. The components of water cannot be separated by any physical methods.
