Solution

A tiny pore called micropyle is situated close to the hilum. It marks the opening through which the pollen tube had entered the ovule.

  1. When seeds are soaked in water, this micropyle absorbs the majority of the water and makes it available to the embryo for germination.
  2. It allows the growing embryo to breathe by allowing the diffusion of breathing gases.
