The correct option is B2.5m Let the height of hole from the base of container be h. So, velocity of efflux=√2g(4−h)
Now, Range of liquid, R=v×t R=√2g(4−h)×√2(h+1)g ⇒R=2√(h+1)(4−h) ⇒R=2(−h2+3h+4)1/2 Differentiating w.r.t h, we get dRdh=2×12(−h2+3h+4)−1/2(−2h+3) For maximum Range, Put dRdh=0 (−2h+3)=0 ⇒h=32=1.5m ∴ Height of the hole from the ground =1+1.5=2.5m
