Water is flowing at a rate of 7m/s through a circular pipe whose internal diameter is 2cm into a cylindrical tank the radius of whose base is 40cm. Determine the increase in water level in 12hours?

We have,

The internal diameter of the pipe=2cm

Internal radius of the pipe=1cm

The radius of the base of the tank=40cm

Speed of water flowing out from the pipe=7m/sec

=7×100×60=42000cm/min[Since1m=100cm,1minute=60seconds]

Step 2: Finding the volume of water flowing out in half an hour

Quantityofwaterflowsoutfrompipein1min=πr2h=π×12×42000cm3

Quantityofwaterflowsoutfrompipein30min=πr2h×30=π×12×42000×30=3960000cm3

Step 3: Finding the height of the water level in the tank

Let H be the height of the water level in the tank.

Quantityofwaterfilledintankin30min=3960000cm3π×402×H=3960000H=3960000×722×1600H=787.5cm

Therefore, the water level increases to 787.5cm in half-hour.
