Nearly 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Out of the 71% of the Earth's water, 97% consists of the saltwater from oceans and seas while the remaining 3% consist of freshwater.

Out of this 3%, around 68.7 % is inaccessible to us in the form of icecaps and glaciers.

Around 30% is in the form of groundwater and just 1% is accessible in the form of rivers, lakes, ponds, etc.

Therefore, a large amount is present on earth yet only 1% is accessible for various activities.
