Question

We hammer the broader side of a nail and not its sharp end to put it in wood. Why?

Open in App
Solution

By doing so, the force will be made to act over the least area and so it would exert maximum pressure on the nail. As a result, the sharp end of the nail would more easily pierce into the wood.
