We know that metals reacts with oxygen to form metal oxide and iron reacts with it to form iron oxide or rust. So iron oxide and rust are same ??

Dear Student,
​​​​​Rust and iron oxide will be same only if oxidation state of iron is +3 and if moisture is present. Not all iron oxides are rust.
The chemical reaction of rust is
4Fe + 3O2 + 2xH2O ----> 2Fe2O3.xH2OIron Oxygen Moisture Hydrated iron(III) oxide
