Solution

Oxygen deprivation

In a flooded condition, aeration of the soil is less, as a result the plant roots can be deprived of oxygen. This will cause the plant to switch to anaerobic condition. But the plant will be unable to survive in such a condition for a long time and eventually this will lead to the death of the plant.
