Question

We know that the ionic bonds are more stronger than the covalent bond,so why it is slightly complicated to dissolve the covalent bonded compounds?

Solution

Covalent molecules are attracted to each other by various intermolecular forces such as H-bonds, dipole-dipole forces, and London dispersion forces. These are strong intermolecular forces. Hence, covalently bond compounds do not readily dissolve.

For example, hexane, C₆H₁₄, does not dissolve in water. Its molecules have little attraction to each other.
