we know that virtual images cannot be obtained on screen. Yet whaen we see a virtual image we obviously bring it to the screen that is retina of our eyes.Is this a contradiction?

Virtual images can be formed on screen. But we can use other lens to make real image out of virtual image (diverging rays). Suppose there is a converging lens in font of a virtual image (or you can say in front of a diverging rays). And if the virtual image is at a distance more that the focal length of the converging lens then it will form real image. That's what happens in retina.
