Solution

The correct option is B Sedimentary rocks
Fossils are the preserved remains, or traces of ancient organisms in rocks. Fossils can be molds and casts or even fecal matter. A fossil can preserve an entire organism or just part of an organism. Fossils are formed when a plant or animal dies, and its soft tissues decompose quickly, leaving the hard bones or shells behind. Over time, sediment builds over the top and hardens into rock.

There are three types of rocks, they are the igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks.

Sedimentary rocks are formed by the accumulation of minerals or organic particles. They have many layers. The remains of dead animals or plant fossils are found in these rocks. These rocks are generally brittle, lightweight and porous.

Sedimentary rocks form sediments and a cross-section of Earth's crust indicates the arrangement of sediments one over the other during the long history of Earth. Different-aged rock sediments contain fossils of different life-forms which probably died during the formation of that particular sediment. Some of the fossils appear similar to modern organisms. They represent extinct organisms (E.g., Dinosaurs).

So, the correct answer is sedimentary rocks.

Igneous rocks are formed from melted rocks inside the Earth whereas metamorphic rocks are formed from rocks that have changed under pressure and heat. In both these cases when the rocks are forming, the fossils get destroyed rather than getting preserved.
