we need oxygen more than nitrogen. then why is nitrogen more than oxygen in the earth's atmosphere?

Dear User,
Nitrogen is present more in our atmosphere than oxygen. This could be possibly because :
  1. Nitrogen is unreactive while oxygen is very reactive. Oxygen reacts with matter and form compounds.
  2. Nitrogen is not stable as a part of crystal lattice therefore it is not incorporated into the solid earth and so is present more in atmosphere.
  3. Nitrogen is not taken up by the biological system whereas oxygen is inhaled by living organisms which in turns increases the concentration of nitrogen in atmosphere.
