Question

We see camphor and naphthalene balls growing smaller as time passes. Why does this happen?

Open in App
Solution

Camphor and naphthalene balls are sublimating substances, which mean that they get converted into a gaseous state from a solid one without getting converted into a liquid state. They sublimate easily even at normal temperature. As the time passes naphthalene and camphor balls keep on growing smaller because of continuous loss of the mass due to sublimation.
