Were the tall plants in the F1 generation exactly the same as the tall plants of the parent generation? How do Mendelian experiment s test this?

The tall plants produced by tall and short parents are physically same ,meaning thye are of the same height s the parents.
But genetically they are not same as the parents.When two pure tall and short plants are crossed we get hybrid or mixed plants genetically.But height will be same as the parents.
If he off springs are same genetically as the parent or not can be tested by using a recessive parent.
Such a cross is called test cross.
