The Boussinesq's equation gives vertical stress
σz=KBQz2
where KB=3/2π[1+(r/z)2]5/2...(i)
For μ=0,the Westergaard's solution is
σz=KWQz2
KW=1/π[1+2(r/z)2]3/2...(ii)
Equating(i) and (ii),we get,
r/z=1.524
for r/z<1.524;Kw<KB
Westergaard's formula gives lesser value of vertical stress. For r/z>1.524,Kw>KB i.e., Westergaard's formula gives greater value of stress.
