What is meant by organs of perennation?

Open in App
Solution

Perennating organs:

These are the organs in plants that help them to survive from one germinating season to another, especially under unfavorable conditions such as drought or winter.

  1. These organs stores enough nutrients to sustain the organism during the unfavorable season, and develop into one or more new plants the following year.
  2. These storage organs can be buds, rhizomes, and tubers. Perennation is closely related to vegetative reproduction, as the organisms commonly use the same organs for both survival and reproduction.
  3. Underground stems also act as organs of perennation to help the plants survive in unfavorable conditions.
