Human body requirements:

  • Water:
  1. Approx 50 – 70 percent of the body is made up of water.
  2. Therefore such an amount should be maintained in the body.
  3. Water is the only medium by which all essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals & other wastes in the body are transported.
  4. Water also plays quite a vital role in regulating the body’s temperature. Nutrition in human beings.
  • Carbohydrates:
  1. Complex carbohydrates, like starch, are found in the foods like pasta, bread, rice, and cereals.
  2. During the digestion process, starch is broken down into simpler sugar glucose, which is the body’s main source of energy.
  • Vitamins and the Minerals:
    1. Vitamins and Minerals are required in minute amounts & are essential for maintaining a strong immune system, building strong bones in the body and muscles & also promotes normal growth and development.
    2. Most of such vitamins come from fresh fruits and vegetables, with some also being found in fish, meat, and eggs.
    3. Minerals, like calcium & iron, also help the body perform optimally.
    4. The best sources are vegetables, meat, and some fish.
  • Fats:
    1. Dairy food, seeds, & nuts all supply fats, as do vegetable oils.
    2. Fat is also digested into many fatty acids, that are used as an energy source and to make cell membranes.
    3. They may also be rebuilt into fat, under the skin, which insulates the body and helps to keep us warm.
  • Proteins:
    1. Rich sources of proteins are fish, meat, poultry, and also beans.
    2. Once digested, these proteins supply the body with amino acids.
    3. These building blocks are then reassembled by cells into different proteins which are used for construction such as enzymes, and a myriad of other roles.
