Animal kingdom

  1. All animals belong to the kingdom Animalia, which is a biological kingdom.
  2. It is the most populous of the five kingdoms ( Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia).
  3. Eukaryotes are multicellular organisms.
  4. They eat in a heterotrophic manner.
  5. Animals are divided into 11 phyla based on their levels of organization, body symmetry, body cavity, and existence or absence of a notochord.

Characteristics of birds

  1. Except for flightless birds (e.g., ostrich), they all can fly.
  2. Their beaks are present.
  3. Their forelimbs have been transformed into wings.
  4. They're warm-blooded creatures.
  5. They use hind limbs for walking, swimming, etc.
  6. They have a four-chambered heart.
  7. The crop and gizzard are extra chambers in the digestive tract of birds.
  8. Respiration is by the lungs.
  9. Respiration is aided by air sacs attached to the lungs.
  10. Sexes are separate, and fertilization is internal in birds.
  11. Examples: Corvus (Crow), Columba (Pigeon), Pavo (Peacock).

Classification of Birds:

  1. Birds belong to the Chordata phylum.
  2. The Phylum Chordata includes all vertebrates (animals with a backbone) and a few invertebrates (organisms without a backbone).
  3. Birds are considered vertebrates.
  4. The Aves class of the phylum Chordata includes all birds.
