They are unicellular organisms which do not have proper cellular organisation.
They lack membrane-bounded cellular organelles and a nucleus.
Although these cells do not have a nucleus, they do have DNA in them.
DNA is contained in a central area in the cell called nucleoid.
They help in replication as well as carry genetic material.
Example:
