Prokaryotes:

  1. They are unicellular organisms which do not have proper cellular organisation.
  2. They lack membrane-bounded cellular organelles and a nucleus.
  3. Although these cells do not have a nucleus, they do have DNA in them.
  4. DNA is contained in a central area in the cell called nucleoid.
  5. They help in replication as well as carry genetic material.
  6. Example: Mycoplasma, cyanobacteria, E.coli etc.
