Question

What are 2 ways to increase impulse?

Open in App
Solution

Impulse

Impulse is the result of a force acting over time. Force multiplied by time interval results in impulse. The change in momentum is another way to describe it. The force, time interval, and change in momentum are all dependent on the impulse according to the following relationships.

I=Ft[I=impulse,F=forceactingonabody,t=changeintime]

Two ways to increase impulse

  1. The impulse is directly proportional to the force, time interval, and change in momentum.
  2. So, the impulse can be increased by increasing the magnitude of force which can be done by increasing the mass or acceleration of the body.
  3. Impulse can also be increased by increasing the time interval or by increasing the magnitude of change in momentum. The change in momentum can be increased by increasing the velocity of the body.
