Open in App
Solution

Facts about the circulatory system:

1- The heart can beat outside the body for about 3 - 5 minutes:

  1. The heart beats outside the body for a short period of time.
  2. Technically, the heart produces its own electrical signals and impulses that cause it to beat.

2- Blood comes in various shades of red:

  1. Blood flowing from the heart to the cells is full of oxygen and is called oxygenated blood.
  2. This blood is bright red.
  3. This behaviour is different from other species such as molluscs and arthropods, where the colour of oxygenated blood is blue.

3- The total heart rate is calculated about 2.5 billion times:

  1. The heart is an organ that never tires and constantly beats to deliver blood and oxygen to every part of the human body.
  2. The average human heart rate will be around 70-78 beats per minute.

4- Resting heartbeat can diagnose heart disease:

  1. Resting heartbeats can predict the risk of heart disease in women.
  2. The heart rate measured at rest is also known as resting heartbeat and is usually found between 50 and 100 bpm.
  3. However, a low resting heart rate is a sign of efficient cardiovascular function and is associated with good heart function.
  4. Resting more than 76 beats per minute, especially in women, is associated with an increased risk of heart disease.
