What are codon and an exon?

Open in App
Solution

Codon:

  1. A codon is a DNA or RNA sequence of three nucleotides (a trinucleotide) that encodes a particular amino acid.
  2. It contains genetic information and is also used to stop signals required for protein synthesis.
  3. Example: Codon AUG codes for Methionine, UGG for Tryptophan, etc.

Exon:

  1. An exon is a sequence of DNA that will form a part of the final mature RNA produced by that gene after introns have been removed by RNA splicing.
  2. Some of them encode the amino acids of a protein.
  3. The five exons are W, X, Alpha, Beta, and Z.
