What are acquired diseases? Give examples

Acquired diseases: The diseases that are developed after the birth of an individual are termed acquired diseases. Acquired diseases are further classified as infectious and non-infectious diseases.

  1. Infectious diseases: These are acquired diseases that are caused by the infection of pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi which are transferred from a diseased person to a healthy person thus they are communicable diseases. Examples of infectious diseases include AIDS, Pneumonia, Hepatitis, chickenpox, Cholera, Typhoid, skin diseases, etc.
  2. Non-Infectious diseases: These are the acquired diseases that are not caused by any living microorganism or pathogens. Examples of Non-infectious diseases include goitre, diabetes, and hypertension which are caused due to injury or damage in any body part, deficiency of any nutrient in the diet, defect in metabolic activities, etc.

Examples of acquired diseases :

Cholera, Typhoid, Pneumonia, Goitre, Diabetes, and hypertension are developed after the birth of an individual, therefore termed acquired diseases.
