  • Anomers are cyclic monosaccharides differing from each other in the configuration of C-1 or C-2 carbon.
  • For aldoses, it is C-1 and C-2 for ketoses.

Example

  • Two cyclic hemiacetal form of glucose is given below:-
  • α-D -Glucose, and β-D -glucose is the example of anomers because the position of a hydroxyl group at carbon 1(C1) is different.
