What are antacids? Give an example.

Antacid is a base which neutralizes excess of acid in the stomach. Hydrochloric acid is secreted by stomach during digestion. Due to hyper-acidity, excess amount of hydrochloric acid is secreted. Antacids such as sodium bicarbonate and magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide neutralize the excess stomach acid. Antacids control the symptoms but not cause.
