Muscles causing opposing movements are called antagonistic muscles.Examples: The biceps (flexor) muscle of the upper arm flexes, i.e., bend the lower arm over the upper arm. Straightening (extension) of the lower arm is brought about by the triceps (extensor) muscle. Therefore, these two muscles are antagonistic.​
