Muscles which act in opposition to other muscles are called the antagonistic muscles. The biceps bends or flexes the arm and is called a flexor. Its antagonist, the triceps straightens or extends the arm and is termed as extensor. When a flexor contracts, the opposing extensor must relax to permit the bone to move.
