In humans, there are 23 pairs of chromosomes. Out of these 23 pairs, 22 pairs contain the genetic material required for the normal functioning of the body. These are known as somatic chromosomes or autosomes. The remaining one pair is responsible for the sexual characteristics of an individual. This pair is known as sex chromosomes.
There are 22 pairs of chromosomes or 44 autosomes present in a human male.
