Open in App
Solution

  • Usually bracts are small, reduced, green-colored, leaf-like structures present at the base of pedicel. For e.g. In China rose, Tulip, etc.
  • But in some cases, they are large and bright coloured like in Bougainvillea.

Bracts perform following functions in a flower:
  1. They are meant to provide protection to flower from extreme environmental conditions and insects.
  2. Bright coloured bracts attract pollinators toward the flower. Hence, favour pollination.
  3. They also provide protection to inflorescence.
