Solution

Calyx:

  1. The calyx is the flower's outermost whorl, and its individual members are known as sepals.
  2. The sepals are green leaf-like structures that protect the flower while it is in the bud stage.
  3. Polysepalous or Gamosepalous calyxes are possible.
  4. When the calyx or sepals are free, the plant is said to be polysepalous. Cassia, for example.
  5. When the calyx or sepals are united or fused, this is referred to as gamosepalous. Datura, for example.
