XX and XY Chromosomes:

  1. Chromosomes in humans can be divided into Autosomes and Sex chromosomes.
  2. A sex chromosome is a type of chromosome that plays a role in determining a person's gender.
  3. Humans have 22 pairs of autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes.
  4. XX is a pair of sex chromosomes that is present in human females.
  5. XY is a pair of sex chromosomes that is present in human males.
  6. The sex determination mechanism in humans is XY type.
  7. Males produce two types of gametes (X and Y) during spermatogenesis.
  8. Females produce only one kind of ovum with X chromosomes.
  9. The sex of the kid is determined by the genetic makeup of the sperm.
  10. The zygote develops into a girl (XX) if the ovum fertilizes with sperm carrying the X chromosome, and a male, if the ovum fertilizes with sperm carrying the Y chromosome (XY).
