Biodiversity hotspots are those regions that have very high levels of species richness including a high degree of endemism. Endemism species are those species that are confined to a particular region and not found anywhere else.

  1. These hotspots are also for regions of accelerated habitat loss.
  2. There is the total of 34 biodiversity hotspots are found in the world. Initially, there were only 25 hotspots but then 9 more are added.
  3. Example: Sundarban, Western Ghats, etc.
