What are Cyanophycins and what is their function ?

Cyanophycin is a non ribosomically synthesised non protein chain of amino acids present in most of the cyanobacteria. It acts as a storage unit of nitrogen and carbon in these organisms. It also serves the function of buffer for fixed nitrogen in the heterrocycts of cyanobacteria.
