Solution

d-block Elements:

  • The elements whose valence shell electron lies in the d orbital come under d block elements.
  • The elements in the d-block are those that can be found in the contemporary periodic table from the third to the twelfth groups.
  • These elements' valence electrons are located in the d orbital.
  • Transition elements or transition metals are other names for d-block elements.
  • The 3d, 4d, and 5d orbitals are represented by the first three rows of the d block elements.

Properties:

  • These are the elements which lie in the middle part of the periodic table from group 3 onwards to group 12th.
  • They are also called as transition elements as they cause transition and show different colours due to d-d transition, the ligand to metal charge transfer and metal to ligand charge transfer.
  • These are the heavy metals having high density, melting and boiling point.
