Decomposers are organisms that break down the organic matter in the dead bodies of plants and animals and return them to the environment. Decomposers include organisms such as bacteria and fungi.
Role of decomposers:
1. They break down complex organic matter into its basic components (carbon, nitrogen, etc.,) and release them into the environment and help recycle them.
2. They feed on the dead and decaying organisms and thus, prevent the foul odour that spreads from the decaying organic matter.
