Question

what are difference between the receptors present on the cell membrane and those which are specialized epithelial cells detecting stimulus

Open in App
Solution

Receptor present on cell membrane are called cell surface receptors.Cell surface receptors (membrane receptors, transmembrane receptors) are receptors that are embedded in the membranes of cells. They act in cell signaling by receiving (binding to) extracellular molecules . They are specialized integral membrane proteins that allow communication between the cell and the extracellular spcae.

Sensory receptors are specialized epithelial cells detecting stimulus.Sensory receptors are specialized cells, usually neurons, that detect and respond to physical and chemical stimuli. Most are exquisitely sensitive to highly specific inputs, or sensory modalities, such as movement, odor chemicals or visible light photons
