An eclipse is a natural phenomenon in which one celestial object (or a part of it) becomes temporarily invisible as it is hidden by the shadow of another celestial object. It happens when three celestial objects are in a straight line.

Solar eclipse Lunar eclipse
1. Solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes in between the Sun and Earth and the shadow of the moon falls on Earth.1. When Earth comes between the Sun and the moon, the shadow of Earth falls on the moon. This causes the lunar eclipse.
2. It occurs in a new moon phase.2. It always occurs in the full moon phase.
3. Total solar eclipse occurs for those who observe from the umbra region.3. A lunar eclipse depends on the position of the moon in the orbit.
