Solution

Dear Student

EFFECT OF COAL AND PETROLEUM

1) Diseases
Burning of coal and petroleum leads to emission of various gases which can cause fatal diseases like cancer, congestive heart failure, asthma attacks, etc.

2) Green house effect and global warming
Burning of coal and petroleum are huge contributors of green house gases like carbon dioxide and methane which leads to global warming.

3) Acid rain
The combustion process of petroleum and coal are responsible for increased occurrence of acid rain. Combustion causes an increase in amount of nitrous oxides and sulphur dioxide from sulphur in the oil. They combine with water in the atmosphere to create acid rain.

4) Pollution
Burning of the coal and petroleum causes air pollution and release of waste into water bodies leads to water pollution. Water pollution kills aquatic animals.
Coal mines release carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide which leads to air pollution.
