Question

What types of protein polymers exist?

Open in App
Solution

Protein polymers:

  • Polymers made from amino acids are called proteins.
  • They are produced spontaneously by all living things, including you, including animals, plants, viruses, fungi, and bacteria.
  • A protein is actually a polyamide, but we'll get to that in a moment. So proteins are polymers made of amino acids.
  • Monomers of amino acids, which make up proteins, have a variety of jobs to do, such as moving molecules around and moving muscles.
  • Nucleic acids are substances made up of chains of polynucleotide monomers that have been linked together.

Examples:

  • Gelatin, haemoglobin, antibodies, and enzymes are a few examples of proteins.
