There are basically three types of fruits, namely simple fruits, aggregate fruits and multiple fruits. Simple fruits develop from a single matured ovary in a single flower. It is of two types, fleshy fruits and dry fruits. In fleshy fruits, pericarp is fleshy at maturity.
Simple fleshy fruits are of four types. These are berry, drupe, pome and hip.
(i) Berry consists of one or more carpels with one or more seeds. Pepo is berry fruit with the hard rind. Whereas hesperidium is a berry fruit with a leathery rind.
(ii) A drupe is also called as a stone fruit. It is derived from a single carpel with one seed.
