What are fossils? Giving one example, explain how fossils provide evidence for evolution.
The remains of animals or plants that lived in the past are known as fossils. The fossil bird Archaeopteryx looks like a bird, but it has many other features that are also present in reptiles. This is because Archaeopteryx had feathered wings like those of birds, but teeth and tail like those of reptiles. It gives the evidence of an evolutionary connection between birds and reptiles. Thus, the study of fossils provides evidence for evolution.
