What are fossils? What do they tell us about the process of evolution?

Open in App
Solution

Fossils are remains of animals or plants which were living in the geological past, they are found embedded or in petrified forms between old rocks during digging or any archaeological procedure. The study of fossils is called Paleontology.
Fossils' age can calculated by carbon dating and studying fossils will tell us about how old those fossils were and at what time they existed. Fossils give us information about the difference and similarities between the species present in the past and now and how the changes in them occurred leading to evolution. They also tell us about the extinct species and help in finding out the reasons for their extinction.
