A geostationary satellite is an earth-orbiting satellite and placed directly over the equator. It revolves in the same direction the earth rotates (west to east) and takes 24 hours to complete one rotation.

A geostationary satellite is used in Direct broadcast TV, Communication network, global positioning or GPS.
