The name 'hydrocarbons' is self-explanatory, referring to the compounds of hydrogen and carbon only.
Hydrocarbons are commonly used as fuels. Examples are LPG (Liquified petroleum gas) and CNG (compressed natural gas).
Hydrocarbon can be classified as saturated hydrocarbon, unsaturated hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and cycloalkanes.
Example of hydrocarbon
Methane $({CH}_{4})$ , Ethane $(C_{2} H_{6})$ are examples of hydrocarbons.
