INDICATORS are the substances which show different behaviour in acidic and basic medium and thus help in chemical nature of the substance. Indicators show the presence of a chemical substance or ion by its colour . They are categorised into two categories:

1.) indicators showing different colours in acidic and basic medium.

2.) indicators giving different odours in acidic and basic medium. They are also called
Olfactory Indicators.
