Solution

Industrial waste:

  1. Industrial waste refers to the waste materials produced by industries.
  2. Chemicals, rubbish, oils, solvents, dirt, and gravel, are examples of industrial wastes.
  3. When these wastes are dumped into the sea, and rivers, without treatment, it causes pollution.

Types of industrial wastes:

  1. There are two kinds of industrial waste:

i) Biodegradable wastes:

  1. Biodegradable wastes are waste products that can be degraded by microbes into simpler forms.
  2. e.g. wastes from paper, food, sugar, and industries.
  3. These wastes are managed at a minimal cost and with ease.

ii) Non-biodegradable wastes:

  1. Non-biodegradable wastes are unable to break down into simpler compounds.
  2. Chemicals, metals, plastics, paints, and rubber, are examples.
  3. These wastes are difficult to manage.

Control of industrial wastes:

  1. Industries that generate these solid wastes manage them.
  2. Industrial waste is managed using a variety of procedures.

The fundamental steps to manage the industrial wastes are as follows:

  1. Separation or Analysis
  2. Collection
  3. Transportation
  4. Recovery
  5. Recycling
  6. Disposal

Separation:

  1. Industrial waste is segregated or evaluated.
  2. Industries should sort garbage into categories like biodegradable, and non-biodegradable.

Collection and transportation:

Industrial waste is collected and transferred to waste management facilities.

Recovery:

  1. Recovery has been done in waste management plants.
  2. During this process, usable elements are recovered from waste.

Recycling and disposal:

  1. The valuable materials are recovered and recycled.
  2. The waste and hazardous items are disposed of.
