Insulators are substances that do not allow the passage of heat through them. In order words, they are considered to be poor conductors. Some examples are wood, plastic, glass, etc.
The insulators are very important when we are handling substances that are hot such as cooking utensils or welders, etc. Since the insulator is a poor conductor, it won't transmit the heat from the hot part of the object to the person holding the insulated part, thus keeping them safe.
