The inter-halogen compound is a molecule that contains two or more different halogen atoms (fluorine, chloride, bromide, iodine as astatine) and no atoms of other groups.
Most interhalogen compounds are known as binary (composed of only two distinct elements). Their formulas are generally ${X Y}_{n}$ , where $n = 1, 3, 5$ or $7$ , and $X$ is less electronegative than $Y$ .

Examples are ${B r}_{2}, {C l}_{2}, B r C l, {(I {C l}_{3})}_{2}$ etc.
