Open in App
Solution

Isobars

  • Isobars are atoms of different elements with different atomic numbers but have the same mass number.
  • Electronic configurations of isobars differ.

Examples of isobars

  • ArgonAr1840, potassiumK1940, and calciumCa2040 are examples of isobars.
  • Here,18,19, and 20 are the atomic number of argon, potassium, and calcium respectively.
  • All the above-mentioned atoms have the same mass number that is40. However, their atomic numbers are different.
  • Therefore, they are classified as isobars.6.2834d44e4f43bc7efedcc08.

Electronic configuration for isobars:

Take an example of a pair of isobar i.e.,4020Ca and 4018Ar

  • The electronic configuration of isobar 4020Ca is 2,8,8,2
  • The electronic configuration of isobar 4018Ar is 2,8,8.
  • The electronic configurations of both isobars are different.
  • Since the number of electrons of both isobars are different.
